MIAD Senior Thesis: MyScript
Low health literacy is known to be a “silent disability” — in fact, fifty percent of all adults living in the U.S. cannot read or comprehend a medication label, which ultimately leads to improper and even dangerous usage of medicine. This is extremely unsettling, considering that one in two Americans take some form of prescription medication. With so many struggling with health literacy, due to inadequate medication labeling and packaging, MyScript was created to eliminate these hardships. The service includes a pictographic system to assist those struggling with label and instructional comprehension. In addition, using blister packaging will alleviate one’s need to count, sort and keep track of doses.
The struggle with literacy leads to so many feeling ashamed, but by giving medication labels and packaging a makeover with MyScript, I hope to empower, raise awareness and drive the market of pharmaceuticals to become a change-maker for the people.
